Prelude

At some point, we look back and contemplate our lives. This is a reflection and an archive of the past 40+ years. As long as I can remember, I have loved music. Being a part of it, and creating music is one of the great joys of my life. Taking on challenges I never thought possible, leaving my comfort zone and never comprimising have been a constant throughout. I have had the good fortune to meet and make music with some of the worlds most talented and creative people, music for records, movies, television and theme parks. Music is magic and the collaboration in creating it is intoxicating. This site is my attempt to thank all the artists who invited me along the way to be a collaborator.

COLLABORATION

Nicholas Britell

Nicholas Britell

I met Nicholas through Paramount Pictures, when they asked me to record and mix the score for "The Big Short". He followed up with 2017's Academy Award winner for best picture, "Moonlight", and Academy Award noominated, If Beal Street Could Talk, as well as, Adam McKay's Vice. We have just completed the second season of HBO's multi-Emmy Award Nominated "Succession", also nominated for his Main Title. Having just completed the Netflix score for The King, which will debut at the Venice Film Festival. Nick is a gifted composer and an accomplished classical pianist, not to mention his hip hop chops! You will be hearing a great deal more from this very talented composer. RESPECT!

Thomas Newman

Thomas Newman

Since 1998, I've had the great privilege to sit next to composer Thomas Newman. Along with a group of very talented artists, Tom consistently turns out completely unique and exceptional film scores. No composer is more imitated. I admire his creativity and treasure his friendship. Always a pleasure to work with. Without exception, I believe he has composed some of the greatest scores ever written.

Quincy Jones

Q's 75th Birthday Party

" I can't say enough about Tommy Vicari. Through the years I've been blessed to work with world class engineers, from Phil Ramone to Bruce Swedien, Al Schmitt and now Tommy. He feels music passsionately and knows what to dig for. From his days as an assitant and engineer at A&M Records, to the Olympics, The Oscars, From Q with Love, The Millenium Show at The White House, and recording Basie and Beyond with Sammy Nestico. I truly appreciate his honesty, sense of humor, musical talent and friendship."
-Quincy Jones

Sammy Nestico

With Sammy Nestico at Capitol Studios.

"Up to my first meeting with Tom Vicari, I had worked with some very distinguished artists and engineers but I had never heard the music as I originally envisioned it. His sphere of influence is felt in every note and every musical phrase. It was as though we were sitting inside the orchestra. He was and is, head and shoulders above anyone I have ever worked with in the music business. Words aren’t necessary, as his craft is available for everyone to enjoy."
-Sammy Nestico

Gordon Goodwin

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band

I have have worked with Gordon and the Big Phat Band since 2001. Amazing compositions and performances by Gordon and his world class Big Band. These records are absolutely labors of love.
This quote is from an article in Downbeat Magazine:

“Vicari became an important partner in defining what the “BIG PHAT BAND” was going to sound like. When you listen to his mixes, you can hear everything. The clarity & transparency he brings to a recording allowed my chart to really sparkle”.
-Gordon Goodwin

Jeffrey Osborne

Jeffrey Osborne

What can I say about this man? Since 1982, I have worked on many amazing records with Jeffrey. In my opinion, one of the greatest singers, songwriters and performers of all time. He has an uncanny abitlity to write and sing classic Rythm & Blues. With and without George Duke, the music I've made with Jeffrey has been and continues to be a labor of love. I treasure the music we have made together, but most of all I value his friendship.

Greg Mathieson

Greg

Greg and I have worked together for over 30 years. He is a dear friend, an accomplished producer, arranger and musician. Greg introduced me to the Italian music scene when he asked me to record and mix Italian artist Umberto Tozzi. That eventually led me to work with Pino Daniele, Raf, Laura Pausini and Eros Ramazzotti in Italy. Together here at home we worked with Bill Champlain, Abraham Laboriel, Filippo Perbelini, to name a few.
"I truly love you my brother."

Buddy Brundo, Bernie Grundman

Buddy and Bernie

They both have always been there for me and my family. Most of all for guidance and friendship. diane, Veronique and I consider Buddy and Susan, Bernie and Claire, our Family. They are the very best.

George Duke

At sound check in Tokyo with George Duke

I spent five tremendously successful years working with George Duke.  Some of the best years of my career making great records, touring Japan, working with Geroge, and amazing artists. Gone far too soon, but his music lives to this day and will live forever in my heart.  "YO T, without a doubt one of the highlights of my production career was working with you and JO. He, like you, are one of a kind - true artists - I love and respect both you guys."
-George Duke

"Love and miss you George."

Rod Temperton

Rod

There is nothing I can say about this man that hasn't already been said. One of the most prolific and successful songwriters of popular music in history; Writer, Producer and Performer. However there was so much more about this man that gets overshadowed by his brilliance. He had a way of making everyone in the room feel comfortable and important. Of course the goal was to always make music and have fun at the same time. His energy was limitless. We all had trouble keeping up with him, especially me. Never comprimising until the music was perfect. His generosity was limitless, his encouragement inspirational. His success never corrupted his kindness. The music he created will last as long as music is appreciated. I think about him everyday and miss him so. Thank You Rod.
Love,
-T

Pino Daniele

Pino

Pino I met on my first trip to Italy. It started with a brief meeting set up by my freind Fabrizio. At that time, Pino was a huge star in the Italian music scene. He was very serious about being the best guitar player he could ever be. His idols were Django Reinhardt, Eric Clapton and Pat Metheny. He always strove to raise the bar when it came to his music. Never comprimising and always communicating that we were all brothers and our responsibility to take care of our home, Planet Earth. He sang about love, passion, and the dignity of mankind. We made about 8 records together. Music I love and cherish. He had a infectuous smile and a charming sense of humor. The world lost a great talent when Pino passed and I lost a dear friend. However, his music is alive and well. Bouna Notte Amico!
